Next Magic Move May Have Presented Itself

Opportunity Knocking for Magic and GM Otis Smith

What Stephen Jackson’s Trade Request Could Mean in Orlando

I’m not saying Magic GM Otis Smith’s prayers have been answered, but Milwaukee Bucks swingman Stephen Jackson may have made Smith’s job a little easier this week after commenting on his desire to play in Orlando.

Jackson, a player that Magic Superstar Dwight Howard openly longs to play with, told the media after a loss to Dwight’s Magic that he would love to grant the big man that wish. Howard, and Nets point guard Deron Williams alike, have both been candid about their desires to play with one another as well as Jackson.

Smith has been chastised in recent months, being called the NBA’s worst executive by some, and having death threats rendered to he and his family by others. Smith is faced with a monumental career altering decision with the Dwight Howard situation looming over the Magic’s season.

This is the time for Otis Smith to rectify the situation and to pony up and make a play that could work towards saving his franchise. If the Magic bundle up a few players that entice the Bucks front office and pry a very unhappy Stephen Jackson from a bad situation in Milwaukee it could very well entice Deron Williams to come south this summer and join the party in the Magic Kingdom.

Easier said than done right?

Jackson’s contract is a burden to the move; it may mean Orlando would have to part ways with either, neither, or both of Hedo Turkoglu or Jason Richardson to make the move happen. This may or may not sit well with Milwaukee who will probably be looking towards the future.

If looking towards that future for Milwaukee is the case, they may be more interested in players the Magic would not be as easily separated from. Guys like Ryan Anderson, Earl Clark, and JJ Redick just to name a few.

What Milwaukee wants to do remains to be seen. They have their own issues with the upcoming free agency of their start Brandon Jennings to be worried about. The fact remains however, they need to make a decision regarding a very unhappy Stephen Jackson.

The door has been opened for the Magic to make a play, maybe a risky one but a play nonetheless, to attempt to satisfy their superstar and further entice Deron Williams to want to join in the fin near Disney.

Will Otis Smith walk through that door? Or will he let it pass as he has so many times in the past? Comment Below!
