Two and a Half Men Vs. Sheen
Is this still an issue?
LOS ANGELES - The makers of TV comedy “Two and a Half Men” have told Charlie Sheen to stop using their photos in promotion of his new upcoming show “Anger Management”, industry sources said on Wednesday.
Lawyers for Warner Bros. television studio sent a cease and desist letter to Sheen and the makers of “Anger Management“ claiming ownership of at least two photos of the actor from his time with “Two and a Half Men.” The letter stated the photos were used in material distributed at a TV industry marketing event in January called NATPE to help promote Sheen’s new show, which is due to be broadcast on the FX network later this year, the sources said.
The Platoon star has since blasted his old bosses for their behaviour in a recent rant, saying: “I’m thrilled. It insulates me from having to redundantly see myself in the idiotic bowling shirt. Perhaps if Warner Bros. spent as much time and energy focusing on their show, it wouldn’t be such a steaming pile of ass.”
An FX spokesman claims the network has nothing to do with the promotional materials in question.
Sheen currently has an ownership stake in the show, which is being produced by Lionsgate Television and Debmar-Mercury. Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury have declined to comment on the matter.
RECAP:
Sheen was fired from his starring role in “Two and A Half Men” last year in a fire-fueled public dispute with the comedy’s creator and its makers. The charismatic -often misunderstood- actor was replaced in September 2011 by Ashton Kutcher.
“Anger Management” is loosely based on the 2003 film of the same name starring Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. Sheen plays a therapist who causes havoc in the lives of his patients with his unconventional methods.
