Lin Takes New York by Storm
The Asian Sensation has The Knicks Back to Their Winning Ways.
If you haven’t heard of Jeremy Lin by now, you must be living in outer space somewhere. Lin, the Harvard grad, is the New York Knick point guard that has taken the NBA season by storm in dare I say Tebow-like fashion. The Knicks, winners of their last four games, have ridden the Jeremy Lin wave since bringing him into a game against the Nets where he dropped 25 points and dished out 7 assists in route to a Knick win.
Since that Saturday night win against New Jersey, the NBA has been buzzing with “Linsanity.” The Knicks went on to beat Utah, Washington, and the Lakers behind Lin’s scoring onslaught, Lin having scored 20+ with 5+ assists in each contest.
Even the Twitter world has embraced this “Lincredible” turn of events in New York. Lin has been trending on the social media network’s feed since his first appearance in a New York Knick uniform, and we now can see why.
Last night at Madison Square Garden in New York, playing against the vaunted LA Lakers, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The Knicks, led by Jeremy Lin, with no Carmelo Anthony or Amare Stoudemire beat the Lakers pretty handily in a 92-85 game that was never as close as the final score would indicate.
The number that mattered wasn’t the final score however; it was Lin’s 38 points. The win didn’t resound as well as Lin going shot for shot with Kobe Bryant down the stretch. As Jeremy Lin spoke to reporters after the game, in the most humble of post game press conferences you could ever see a guy who just dropped 38 points give, a star was born.
“Linsanity” was real before that performance against LA last night. The questions were how sustainable his level of play was and could he play this way on national television against a true championship caliber team like the Lakers?
I think he answered. I think he answered in a way no one saw coming. Jeremy Lin DOES play a sustainable form of high level NBA basketball. Lin lived up to the hype on the biggest of stages last night and that wasn’t lost on his teammates.
Speaking of teammates…
The next logical question for Jeremy Lin will not be answered for another week or so. Can Lin co-exist with team superstar Carmelo Anthony? Anthony, the player the Knicks stripped their franchise for, is a ball dominating forward who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. His play with a guard like Lin could be deterred.
Lin and Stoudemire is a different situation entirely. When Amare comes back Lin should see an increase in effectiveness. No forward runs the pick and roll quite like Amare Stoudemire, he and Lin could become a deadly combination the way Amare was with Steve Nash in Phoenix.
However the situation with Lin, Amare, and Melo shakes out the Knicks have found something of a true point guard, their missing link, in Jeremy Lin.
