Whitney Houston has passed away at the age of 48. We remember one of the most talented artists and best voices in history. Shocked reactions from fans and celebrities began to be expressed on social network sites like Twitter.
Houston’s publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown. News of Houston’s death came on the eve of music’s biggest night — the Grammy Awards. Her death will surely weigh heavy on the hearts of those watching and in attendance of Sunday’s ceremony.
Artists reactions:
Mariah Carey wrote, “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world.”
The Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Booker, acknowledged Houston’s roots in the state, tweeting,”RIP Whitney Houston, a Legend and great American artist. And always, one of Newark’s and New Jersey’s treasured daughters.”
Lenny Kravitz wished that the singer “rest in peace,” adding, “There will never be another like you.”
“The View’s” Sherri Shepherd echoed Kravitz’s hope for Houston to be at peace, writing, “Whitney I hope you found the peace in Heaven that you could never seem to find down here. RIP Ms. Houston ‘where do broken hearts go.’”
Said Rosie O’Donnell, “Dear God … There is a grief that can’t be spoken #DEVASTATED.”
Added Keri Hilson, “Ugh I hate that I’m even typing this…I’m shocked. She was my hero growing up.”
Music group Foster the People, who are performing at the Grammys Sunday, added via their Twitter account, “We lost an incredible voice today… R.I.P. Whitney Houston.”
